Porter's 1st Pinewood Derby

Porter had his first Pinewood Derby this weekend. And I think he had a pretty good time working with his dad, getting it ready to race.
Porter is fairly artistic so he was really excited about finally getting to decorate the car. Look at that technique!

But Porter wasn't the only one having fun working on the car. It was an entire family event. Ahhh, boys!
That is one thing I LOVE about Andersen. He's always able to find a way for all the boys to feel included. Even though it takes him 4 times (one time for each boy) as long to do anything they all feel like they've helped Dad :0) I am always amazed by his patience.
A little video of the "crew" in action!

Here it is! White Lightning! Great job Porter!
Here are the contenders. I was really impressed by all the different styles. No two alike!
Lining up for the flag ceremony.
Our ward also combines the Blue and Gold Banquet with the Pinewood Derby, so here are Mason and Coolidge playing with the centerpiece. Luckily it was meant to be played with.
And what's a party without cake! I don't know who made it, but it looked awesome. The boys didn't even want to bother with dinner, they wanted to go straight for the cake.
We did manage to force some dinner down them first, but I think this is Coolidge's 3rd or 4th piece of cake!
The Derby itself went really quickly. Everything was timed electronically and automatically sent to a Pinewood Derby software that calculated every one's overall time by combining each individual time. Each car raced 3 times and then the times were added together to see whose was fastest.
Here is the track and finish line. This was one of Porter's heats that his car won. He was really excited to come in 1st on one of the runs :0)
Congratulations Porter! His car won "Hottest" car.

Reminds me of my boys. Isn't it fun? Porter's hair is darker. Such a cute kid! Anderson is such a great dad to get them all included in the fun. We miss the Grigg family!

What a great post! It's fun to see Andersen and the boys working together...it makes me want a boy for Will even more! Good thing we're talking about doing a pinewood derby for the reunion, Will can get a fix then. LOL. Too bad they don't do stuff like that for girls though, I know Kaylee would love it. That race was really high-tech. Pretty cool that they had software and all.

I can't believe how big Cooley is...he doesn't look like a toddler anymore! Tell those boys to stop growing up so fast.
